Perfect Wedding Guide Event

This past Thursday night Central Florida’s Perfect Wedding Guide hosted a vendor appreciation event at the Blue Martini. My interns: Blair, Brittany & myself all attended the event and had anextraordinary time! The “Sex and the City & Blue” martinis were the perfect touch to match the beautiful lighting throughout the space. The food was out of this world, especially all of the delish dessert bites available. Anna Cake’s coconut cupcakes & Cake O’ Licious’ velvet cake, cake pops were my personal favorites!

I captured the magical night with my point and shoot shots, and celebrated with wonderfully talent people! I’m so glad I was able to attend the event & I congratulate the winners of the Five Carat Diamond Award.I captured the magical night with my point and shoot shots, and celebrated with wonderfully talent people! The new Creative Oasis for Caroline Johnson Photography of Orlando

It has been one month and counting since the trigger was pulled to launch the new studio here in Orlando, Florida! All of us at Caroline Johnson Photography are excited to announce the new studio is up and running! The brand new and elegant space has an ambiance that symbolizes the unique {MODERNISME} style that Caroline Johnson Photography exudes.  Located in the center of Orlando’s antique district it is the perfect location for backdrops for a variety of different shoots. The new studio space also boasts a shooting room for those rainy days and family portraiture.

The design inspiration came from years of pulling out my favorite decorating ideas from magazines such as Domino, Elle décor, Dwell, and many others.  The spirit of the new studio came alive quickly on paper once the inspiration and mood board was designed.  I incorporated several luscious details including white floors and teal blue walls, basil greens accents, and a damask wall covering that will make your heart smile.

If I had to describe the space I would call it “Vintage Modern Chic.” For those who have known me for along time you will recognize my favorite damask print.  This has been an element that I incorporated over 5 years ago, well before it became trendy!  It still makes me happy.

I feel like the design process went so smoothly because I simply incorporated all the elements that I love into the new studio space.  I tried not to over plan the space but rather include items that I simply LOVED.  When giving advice to anyone new to design or wanting to spruce up your new space, I always say... "Stay true to your style and only buy the items that you love and that make you happy."  Every piece in your space should function and have a story.

One of the most unique aspects of the studio is the bathroom! Yes, the bathroom! We spared no expense! The black and white marble floors accentuate the basil green hand painted sink basin which rests the modern Ferguson vessel sink!  Our bathroom is exquisitely different. Obviously you can see I am very excited about the new bathroom J This studio is laced with details that ignites my creative soul.

You are officially invited to come by and visit at the new studio.  All of the alluring details are sure to draw you in.  I hope that you too will agree that Caroline Johnson Photography is the crème de la crème of Florida’s Photography studios.  - Caroline

Up Close & Personal with Lauren Hill

How would you describe the overall feel of your wedding?

I wanted it to be a celebration and that's really the feeling you had when you were in that ballroom..  I wanted everyone, young and old just to have a blast.  I think we succeeded!

Who was you gown designer? What did you LOVE about wearing your gown?

I wore 2be Bride from Love Boutique in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. I felt so beautiful in my gowns.  I didn't want to take it off!  My husband said "Where did you get those curves from?"  It really is the one time in your life when you know you are going to be the most dressed up person in the room.

What was your favorite song you danced to?
My first dance with Marcus, "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison.

During your wedding planning what resource inspired you the most?
My Mom.  We have very similar taste, so when she said she loved something- I knew I would too!  She is very creative and artistic.  She made the a lot of the things we used at the wedding, eve the flower girl baskets!  I also used TheKnot.com quite a bit, I liked looking at the Real Weddings section for ideas.

What were your wedding colors?
I used soft shades of pink, greeen, and ivory for the ceremony. Then transitioned into warmer pinks, yellows, oranges for the reception.

What was your most memorable moment during your photo shoot time with Caroline?
It's hard to say!  I think it was when Caroline, my husband and I were shooting on the golf course before the reception.  The sun was going down any minute so only had a limited amount of time.  Before hand, Caroline had suggested that we get 2 golf carts to ride around the course to take pictures. We all hoped on the carts and jetted around the course.  Without ever being there previously, Caroline found the most beautiful spots on the course to shot.  She knows how to improvise, direct, and work in a time crunch with ease. The pictures turned out to be our favorites!

What type of food did you serve? Did you actually have time to eat the food?
Haha! I was able to eat, but not as much as I would have liked!  We had a buffet that included a prime rib carving station, roast pork, stuffed chicken, au gratin potatoes, green beans, saffron rice, grilled vegetables, and spanich salad with warm bacon dressing.  During the cocktail hour we had butlered hors d'oeuvres which included shrimp cocktail, baked brie with raspberries, and melon and prosciutto.

Who were your vendors?
Inpulse Entertainment- DJ
The Potting Shed- Floral Design
Shutterbooth- Photobooth
Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club- Reception and food
Publix GreenWise - Cake

For future brides planning their wedding now what advice would you share?
Everyone told me, "The night goes by so fast", but it really does!  Make sure you stay with your Groom.  You will be pulled in 100 different directions through out the night, but stick by each other.  You want to have those memories together at your reception. Someone passed that piece of advice to me and I am so glad they did!

A Lesson in Styling for your Engagement Session - Caroline Johnson Photography

Lillian McCotter

Style is the ability to discover your own signature.  Knowing what looks good on you and how to dress yourself for any occasion is key.  Some say that less is more when it comes to fashion,  but I think that more is definitely more!  I love to accessorize and experiment with different colors and prints to express my style.

When styling for an engagement session:  Yes, you want to look fabulous, but you also want to look like yourself!  The couple's pictures should show not only their love for each other, but their personal style as well.  If you're not really into fashion, don't wear outfits that look they just stepped off the runway in Paris!  You don't want to be unrecognizable in your photos, and you certainly don't want your outfit to overshadow the love being captured in the shoot.  So the main point is to wear a well put together outfit that is true to your true personal style.

-The things that make an outfit stand out in an image are color, fit, and the styling of the outfit.  A small change can upgrade an entire look.  For example, putting a colored cardigan over a blouse and then adding a small belt around the waist.  Don't wear clothes that you are swimming in.  Make sure the outfit fits you and has colors that flatter you.  Also, don't be afraid to accessorize with jewelry, headbands, belts, etc.

-I love to layer items because I think it really adds something to an outfit.  For example, I like to start with something basic like any kind of white blouse , then I add a little sparkle with a black sequin vest.  After that put on a brightly colored or muted (depending on occasion) wrap sweater over top.  Of course this is not the only way to layer clothing, but it should give you an idea.  Also, colors do not have to match perfectly!  An olive green cardigan over a royal blue blouse may not seem to coordinate, but it does and also photographs beautifully. (Insert Meghan's picture here!)

-Skin tones:

  • Lighter skin tones look best in dark colors of blue, purple and gray. Pastels and light, muted tones can create a washed out look.  The contrast of a rich, dark color against light skin is beautiful.
  • Medium and olive skin tones should avoid color with golden undertones such as brown, orange and caramel. Your best choices are shades of red, blue and green and other bright colors. (You can get away with it!)
  • Darker skin tones look fabulous with contrast so opt for white, plum, pale pinks, silver gray.  These colors will make you look radiant!

-When picking out an outfit, first decide which style you are going for.  Caroline always lets couples do two outfit changes.  One usually casual, and the other more formal/sexy/sassy.  So for example, if you're choosing your casual outfit, decide if it's going to be jeans, shorts, skirt, etc.  After picking whatever bottoms you will wear, then choose the top to go with it.  From there, choose your shoes and accessories.

-Men should wear colors that flatter their skin tone and bring out their eyes.  For the casual look, a nice pair of dark wash jeans and a polo always looks nice.  For the more formal look, try something along the lines of dress pants and a button up shirt.  Of course, this all depends on the theme and location of where the shoot will be and what your lady is wearing.  The couple's outfits do not have to match in color, but the colors and styles should compliment each other.  I recommend that the woman chooses her outfit first, and the man's outfit should be chosen after, according to hers.

-The importance of a makeup artist & hair stylist:  Having your hair and makeup done will not only make you look gorgeous in your photos, it will give you a boost of confidence while shooting.  A makeup artist knows what kind of makeup will look best in photos so it's a great idea to leave it up to a professional.  Also, when your makeup is professionally done, it results in less photoshopping for the photographer!

-What not to wear:  Avoid clothing with heavy, loud prints.  For example, plaid does not photograph well.

So make sure you have some great outfits that bring out your best features and are true to who you are and your personal style.  The most important thing to remember is to just have fun with your engagement session and be yourself so that the love comes through in the pictures.  After all, love is what an engagement is all about!

Meet Leslie Vega - a luxury branding and invitation designer

Meet LESLIE -

The mastermind behind the LV Studio

I had the pleasure of meeting Leslie a few years back and saw her raw talent and design inspiration.  You can almost feel her love for design the moment you step into a room with her.  She gets it!  She is so inspiring and it has been so fun to not only know her but to have a friend in her. Every time we get to get together the wheels just spin and spin.  She ignites creativity. A real fire starter. Once you meet her you will see.  Leslie owns an amazing luxury design boutique called The LV Studio.  Leslie has been on different sides of the wedding business and has targeted her design sensibilities and created an amazing National company servicing wedding professionals with her branding and Brides and other looking for the ultimate in design and luxury invitations. You simply must check her out.  She will amaze! - PS images taken by yours truly.

She was just featured on Brooklyn Bride - a snappy wedding planning and inspiration blog  Here is her link which provides a studio tour along with her q & a.  The LV Studio

Here is a little scoop on The LV Studio (taken from her site)

The LV Studio is a boutique design studio envisioned and inspired by graphic designer, Leslie Vega. After receiving her degree in graphic design in 2003, Leslie ventured out into the field working with in-house design departments, marketing firms and wedding event professionals.

Eventually, she found that owning her boutique studio would be the beginning of endless possibilities. With experience in the wedding industry, she knows all too well the needs of a bride firsthand. Her marketing and branding experience makes her a leading brand designer saught after by small businesses throughout the nation-the majority being wedding industry businesses. Leslie also applies the thinking she puts into brand design and seamlessly 'brands' a wedding through her luxury custom invitations.

When she's not designing, Leslie keeps herself busy caring for her precious daughter, Nadia, relaxing with her husband Jose, hanging out with friends, singing and just sitting on her comfy couch with a yummy bowl of watermelon.
